CityChurch Values
- Grace-Centered: The Bible’s story of Jesus Christ is the central story of our community, the defining and motivating identity we share. Grace alone has the power to change individual hearts and renew entire cities. The gospel of God’s grace is the solution to every human problem and the answer to every human need.
- City-Positive: The Bible’s theology of the city is the foundation for everything we do. The gospel creates the “Church” an alternative city within the city. As the Church we are not here to escape the city or to be absorbed by the city, but to love, serve, challenge, and renew the city.
- Classical-Christianity: The core truths of the Christian faith, expressed in the apostle’s creed and the Protestant Confessions and articulated in a culturally relevant way are the focus of our teaching. We take seriously our friends and associates objections to and doubts about Christianity and seek to differentiate true Christianity as a way of being fully human in contrast to being religious, agnostic or atheistic.
- Holistic-Ministry: Ministry must be to the whole city (rich & poor, liberal & conservative, male & female, marketplace & home, etc.) and to the whole person. Spirituality and social justice, work and worship, vocation and recreation, art and athletics, must be part of our ministry to urban people.
- Kingdom-Partnerships: No one denomination, church or ministry can meet the diverse, complex, and multi-faceted needs of the city. We value kingdom-partnerships in planting churches, building ministries, and in serving and renewing the city.
- Prayer Driven: Prayer balanced with Scripture is central to everything we do. Urban ministry is useless ego trip without seeking the Lord’s will for our city, waiting patiently for Lord’s direction and confirmation and the power He gives us through individual and corporate prayer.
CityChurch Beliefs
All partner churches and ministries of the City Church Partnership stand in the ancient heritage of historic/classical Christian theology. Those beliefs are summarized below:
- We believe that the Bible is the written Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts. The Bible is our infallible and divine authority in all matters of faith and life.
- We believe that salvation is by God's drawing people to Jesus by His Holy Spirit. He convinces them of their sin and enlightens them so that they repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ as He is offered in the Gospel.
- We believe in the Trinity. There is one God who exists eternally in three Persons--the Father, acting alone, who saves His people by the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are one in power and glory.
- We believe in the full divinity and the full humanity of Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God. He is the fullest and final revelation of God to mankind.
- We believe that Jesus Christ, as the eternal Son of God, became man, lived, died and rose again to atone for the sins of those who trust Him alone for their salvation. Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and mankind.
- We believe that God's Holy Spirit gives Christians the daily power and wisdom they need to walk according to His will, to grow in holiness, and experience His presence.
- We believe that all people are sinners and are unable to save themselves or even cooperate with God in efforts to earn their salvation.
- We believe that Jesus Christ shall return personally, visibly and bodily to judge all mankind and to receive His people unto Himself.
- We believe that God saves people for his glory and their good – calling us to a life of joyful following Christ and demonstrating his love to others.
- We believe in the effectiveness, power and necessity of prayer in our lives as individuals, in our work as churches and ministries, and collectively as the body of Christ.
